Module 6 - Block in your first layer (first pass)
Block in your first layer (first pass)
please watch the attached video
Think of layers like "passes"
TIPS:
Take TIME to mix your palette with the right tones. Spending more time there will lesson corrections you have to make later in the painting.
Use the 70/30 rule. Look at your reference 70% of the time and your painting 30% of the time.
SQUINT: squint at your reference and your painting quickly and often. If you have glasses, take them off to check where you're at.
Paint what you SEE, not what you think you see. If you need to turn your painting upside down to help, do it!
Your 1st Pass will use more paint, so mix more paint than you think you need.
Block in the planes of the face. Use larger brushes, then go smaller. Focusing on the eye when you haven't blocked in the overall form will lead to madness and drive you crazy! Take it from me.
